Description:
Valley Health administrates WIC, The Supplemental Nutrition Program for (Women, Infants and Children). Valley Health WIC Program provides services to more than 12,500 participants from eight clinics in the six counties of Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Putnam and Wayne. WIC provides nutritious food, individual counseling and nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to other needed services. Families visit WIC four times a year and receive three months of food vouchers for each participant (two of these visits include growth and nutrition assessment). WIC serves pregnant and post-partum women, infants and children up to the age of 5 years old whose families are of low-to moderate-income (up to 185% of the federal poverty level) and others who qualify for a medical card. The program is for all kinds of families: married and single parents, working or not working, receiving other types of aid, or not participating in any other programs.
