Mission: To improve pregnancy outcomes, reduce the number of low birth weight infants, support and encourage breastfeeding, and support the growth and development of infants and children. The program is a federal supplemental food program that provides low-income families with healthy foods and nutritional education. These are: CATEGORY - pregnant women, breastfeeding woman, post-partum women, infant, a child under the age of 5, RESIDENCY - The applicant must show proof of NYS residency, NUTRITIONAL RISK - have at least on nutritional risk criteria (determined at certification), INCOME - prove that household income is within stated guidelines (call to find out) or qualify with an adjunct program such as Medicaid, TANF, and/or Food Stamps.
