Description:: WIC is a Supplemental Food and Nutrition Program that provides assistance to safeguard the health of low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and post-partum women, infants and children up to age five who are at nutritional risk. WIC provides nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care. The goal of the WIC program is to decrease the risk of poor birth outcomes and to improve the health of participants during critical times of growth and development. To meet this goal, WIC also provides nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion, healthcare and other referrals and specific foods that provide key nutrients needed by pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, infants and children.
