Description:
WIC is a free nutrition education program that provides healthy food and nutrition advice to pregnant/breastfeeding/postpartum women, infants and children under the age of 5 years old. WIC gives checks to buy healthy foods at local supermarkets and nutrition counseling for families who qualify. WIC also provides breastfeeding advice and support for pregnant women and new moms. Fathers, grandparents and foster parents can also apply for WIC benefits for the children intheir care. WIC helps families with moderate and low incomes (185% of U.S. poverty level, i.e. a family of 4 can earn as much as $838 gross/week ). Families on RIteCare or Katie Beckett also may qualify. All RI residents may choose a site of their choice anywhere in the state.
