Description:
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding support and education, health referrals, and nutritious foods. Who is Eligible for WIC? Pregnant Women, Postpartum and Breastfeeding Women, Infants and Children up to 5 years of age. To receive WIC benefits, you must meet federal income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. WIC services are by appointment. Identification, proof of residency, proof of income, and immunization record are required to bring to appointment. WIC provides food instruments which can be used at local stores to buy: milk, cheese, eggs, whole grain breads and cereals, juice, fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables, infant formula and cereal, and baby food fruits and vegetables. There is also an enhanced food package for breastfeeding women that includes extra milk, dried beans or peanut butter, tuna and carrots. Foods bought with WIC food instruments are meant to supplement your food purchases to provide healthy, balanced meals. WIC also offers breastfeeding guidance and support, healthy eating education, and referrals for a variety of services.
