- Description
- WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) is a supplemental nutrition program providing pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants, and children (under 5 years old) with nutritious foods and nutrition information. Foods provided may include infant formulas, cereal, and juice as well as milk, cheese, and eggs and other nutritious foods. WIC is available for Louisiana residents who have a nutrition risk and receive Medicaid, TANF, Food Stamps, or who have an income that meets the WIC income guidelines. WIC also provides referrals to other health and social services, as well as providing support for breastfeeding mothers through the breastfeeding peer counseling service. Special counseling is available by the nutritionist by appointment.
