- Description
- All moms and moms-to-be can learn more about which foods to choose for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy family. And we're not just for moms! WIC also helps fathers of young children, grandparents and foster parents who are legal guardians of young children. For more than 35 years, the WIC program in Pennsylvania has helped families like yours get the foods and information you need to help your children learn and grow. By keeping your child on WIC until his or her 5th birthday, he or she will receive healthy foods, and you'll receive free nutrition guidance, information and support. Pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women can also get WIC. WIC has lots of support for breastfeeding mothers and babies. WIC provides breastfeeding peer counselors to provide support and guidance. Also, WIC checks save families about $50 a month per child! The Pennsylvania WIC Program is committed to improving the health of eligible pregnant women, new mothers, and children by providing nutrition education, breastfeeding support, healthy foods, and referrals to health and social programs during the critical stages of fetal and early childhood development. WIC foods include milk, eggs, cheese, beans, cereal, juice, peanut butter, whole grains, fruits and veggies. For infants, we provide baby cereal and jarred baby foods, along with formula if breastfeeding isn't applicable. Also, if you are nursing your baby, you will get more food benefits and may even be eligible for a breast pump!
