  • Description
  • The Women, Infants and Children Supplemental Nutrition Program (WIC) is a federal program designed to provide food to low-income pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children until the age of five. The program provides a combination of nutrition education, supplemental foods, breastfeeding promotion and support, and referrals to health care and social service agencies. The WIC Program is available to eligible participants without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap. The purpose of the WIC program is to prevent health problems and to improve the health of program participants during critical times of growth and development. WIC has a commitment to help participants improve their health status through better nutrition. Participants can seek WIC services at one of eight convenient locations throughout Sacramento County, some offering extended hours. The experienced and personable Health Division staff offers services in many languages including sign language for the hearing impaired. In addition to the WIC Program, supplemental grants related to breastfeeding promotion and support help us recruit and retain Lactation Consultants and provide breastfeeding services to the diverse population in Sacramento County and specialized training for staff.

Comment from ALICIA RAMOS: Hi, I would like to introduce myself I am the new administrative assistant for Galt Adult School, and I would love to get the opportunity to work with you. We have an upcoming nutrition Class that will be starting on February 13th from 6pm to 8pm. This nutrition class is very informative and educational. I have taken it myself and I believe it would be beneficial for your clients. If I may send you the flyer and if you have any upcoming meetings with clients, I can go out to talk to them about our class. Thank you for your time!
