  • Description
  • The WIC Program is a supplemental food and nutrition education program that serves pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum women, infants, and children up to the age of five. To be eligible, the applicant must be a resident of New York State and have a household income of less than 185% of the poverty level. WIC provides nutritious foods, including low-fat or fat-free milk, cheese, eggs, whole grains, peanut butter/beans, vegetables and fruits. WIC strongly promotes breastfeeding as the best way to feed your baby. Breastfeeding support is available through our WIC Nutritionists and the Peer Counselor Program (753-5640). Formula is also available for infants who are either partially breastfed or fully formula fed. WIC has been shown to improve the health of pregnant women, new mothers and their infants and children. The foods provided through WIC are a good source of essential nutrients that are often missing from the diets of women and young children. Pregnant women on WIC have longer healthier pregnancies and fewer premature births.

Comment from Christine PLATON: Just short note. I am a Nurses Aide... have a Lactation Counselling provisional certificate requiring that I work within this parameter with a mentor. After the completion of enough hours my certificate becomes valid. I live in West Henrietta. Im the mother of 12 children all were nursed. I have also recently completed the MHA Certificate Peer Program. Im hoping that I can apply in Avon also. I will attend locally due to gas expense. It is my goal to relocate to the Avon or Wheatfield area . Christine Platon 60 Hendrix Rd Apt 121 West Henrietta NY 14586
