  • The WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Program provides supplemental nutrition for pregnant, lactating, and postpartum women, as well as infants and children ages 1-5 yrs. old. This is accomplished by providing supplemental food and education on the importance of a balanced diet. Hopefully, this federally funded Nutrition Program can prevent many conditions, such as anemia, premature delivery and other problems associated with inadequate nutrition. Pregnant women, infants and children up to five years old can apply for the program. Program regulations require that everyone be evaluated according to medical, nutritional, and financial criteria to be eligible for the food supplements. The WIC program is funded through the Illinois Department of Human Services.
