- Description
- WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for women, infant, and children (WIC). The program provides free food and nutrition information to improve the health status of the participant. WIC is funded and administered at the national level by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. At the state level, the program is operated by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. The Phelps County Health Department administers the program at the local level. WIC serves women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or have had a baby less than 6 months ago, infants and children up to 5 years of age who are at nutritional risk and meet income guidelines. Requirements for participation in the WIC program are the same for everyone regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or handicap.
