- Description
- The mission of WIC (Women Infants and Children) is to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care. WIC is a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant or breastfeeding women, infants and children up to 5 years of age. It provides short-term, low-cost, preventative health services for families in need of nutritional support. WIC foods add protein, iron, calcium, vitamins A and C. Participants may receive milk, cheese, eggs, cereal, juice, legumes (dried peas and beans), peanut butter, whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables, tuna, carrots, infant formula, and infant cereal, fruits, vegetables and meats.
