- The Special Supplmental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children - better known as the WIC Program - serves to safeguard the health of pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on health eating including breastfeeding promotion and support, and referals to health care. Women in the WIC program eat better, have healthier babies and receive early prenatal care. Infants born to WIC mothers weigh more and grow and develop better. Children on WIC eat foods with more iron and vitamin C, visit their doctors regularly and receive immunizations.
