- Description
- The Women, Infants and Children Program is a federally funded supplemental food and nutritional program for pregnant, postpartum, and nursing mothers, infants, and children up to the age of 5 years in which selected food items may be provided on a monthly basis. WIC staff members load participant information and up to three months of WIC food benefits onto a WIC EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) card. A participant is also provided with a WIC shopping list that tells how much food is loaded on the card. Participants may go to any store that accepts WIC to use the benefits. WIC staff members schedule future appointments before the last set of food benefits expires. WIC also provides health information, nutrition counseling, and assessment. Eligibility requires that clients meet nutritional and financial eligibility criteria and must be residents of either Wichita or Clay County.
