  • Description
  • WIC is a supplemental food, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support program. It serves low to moderate-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, and infant/children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk. The purpose of WIC is to prevent health problems and to improve the health of program participants during critical times of growth and development. WIC allows mothers to buy foods that are high in protein, iron, calcium, and rich with Vitamins A, C, and D with checks to help their family stay healthy and grow well. Yolo county initiated its WIC program in 1979 and operates out of the Yolo County Health Department. The YCHD WIC program serves participants in Woodland, West Sacramento, Davis, Winters, Esparto, Knights Landing, and Clarksburg.
