Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a federally-funded program which provides supplemental food vouchers and nutrition education to 7,275 pregnant and breastfeeding women and to infants and children up through age five who qualify in Butte County. Services are available to clients who are at risk for nutritional deficiencies and who meet financial guidelines. Parent education about nutrition, breastfeeding, child safety, growth/development and other child-appropriate topics is provided by the WIC staff along with approximately $60 in nutritious foods per month per person.
