The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program is a federally funded nutrition program for pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding women, infants and children from birth to five years of age. The goal of the WIC program in Garfield County is to give our children the best possible start in life. In order to achieve this goal, WIC provides nutrition education, healthy foods, breastfeeding support, and health care referrals
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) serves to safeguard the health of income eligible pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care at no cost. Participants must meet income guidelines and a State residency requirement and must be individually determined to be at “nutritional risk” by a health professional.
