WIC is a Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. WIC provides healthy food, milk, dried beans and peas, cereal, juice, infant formula, peanut butter, cheese, eggs, and infant cereal at no cost to those who qualify. The WIC staff determines which foods a participant receives based on individual needs. WIC also provides guidance on nutrition information, infant feeding, special diets, nutrition for healthy pregancy, food buying and child growth and development. WIC is for pregnant women; breast feeding women who have had a baby in the last 12 months; women who have had a baby in the last 6 months; infants; and children up to 5 years. Applicants must meet WIC Income Guidelines. Many participants in the WIC Program have jobs. Many receive Food Stamps, Medicaid, AFDC, School Lunch, or Head Start.
