WIC is the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children. WIC provides supplemental, nutritious foods for low to moderate income pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women; and infants and children from birth to the age of five who are at nutritional risk. These foods are rich in protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C. These are key nutrients commonly lacking in the diets of the WIC targeted population. Breastfeeding promotion and support are integral parts of the WIC program. Our agency has trained personnel who are ready to assist mothers in making informed decisions about infant feeding choice and in instructing them in the basics of breastfeeding.
