Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a nutrition education program that provides highly nutritious supplemental foods which promotes good health for pregnant and postpartum women, breastfeeding mothers, infants and children up to age five. WIC's most important goal is prevention of nutrition-related health problems. WIC is a nutrition education program serving pregnant women by offering nutritious food, referrals to other agencies and physicians, education on how to eat for a healthy baby and how to feed the baby after birth, be that breastfeeding or formula. For those mothers who choose to breastfeed, we can provide breastfeeding education, breast pumps and mother-to-mother counseling through the Breastfeeding Peer Helper program. Infants who are not breastfed are given formula, baby foods and cereal after 6 months of age. Breastfed infants also receive baby food meats. Children ages one to five receive an age appropriate food package that includes milk, fruit juice, peanut butter, eggs, cereal, whole grains and a voucher for fruits and vegetables. Nutrition education is given at each visit.
