  • Description
  • The Stamford Women, Infant and Children's program is a federally funded program which provides service through the Stamford health department. The program provides healthy food supplements and nutrition information-during critical times of growth and development. Eligibility is based on income and nutritional need. Benefits are available for pregnant, breastfeeding or women who recently had a baby. Infants and children under the age of five years old are also eligible for benefits. Please contact us for eligibility information. W.I.C. checks are issued to provide foods which include the 5 food groups. The W.I.C. foods emphasize good choices of nutrients which promote growth and development; iron, calcium, vitamin A & C., proteins and more. The W.I.C. checks are redeemable at most major grocery stores and several pharmacies in the area. Information on breastfeeding and healthy eating is provided. If necessary, referrals are made to other programs.
